- WOOD,
WOODS posted by Ray
Turner on Sunday, June 1, 1997
- WOOD, Dr.
Virgil A. and wife, Sarah C."Sallie" WOOD. It is thought he moved
back to Texas in his old age to be with one of his children, and
died and was buried in Texas, possibly Bowie County, but not sure
about the county. Virgil being born, Aug 12, 1849, and wife Sallie
born Nov 3,1855, possibly a time slot for their deaths would be
around 1915 to 1940, 1940 making Virgil 91 years old and Sallie,
85, a little on the high side! I would appreciate any information
from anyone who has Texas death records. They could possibly be
erroneously listed as WOODS in some records, one of his brothers,
O.M. WOOD, is listed in furneral home records at Hope, AR., as O.M,
WOODS, his wife, who was still living at time of his his death,
as Mrs. O.M. WOOD! All known inflormation on Virgil ans Sallie is
as follows: Virgil A. Wood was born 12 August 1849 in Cass County,
GA. When he was a few months old, his family moved to Texas for
a couple of years and then moved on to Hempstead Co., Arkansas.
On 4 October 1874, Virgil married Sarah C. "Sallie" Robins, daughter
of Samuel H. Robins and Sarah Turner. Sallie was born 3 November
1855; she and Virgil both were members of the Methodist Protestant
Church. Virgil A. Wood was featured in the Hempstead County chapter
of an Arkansas textbook Virgil was noted as having been a resident
of Wallaceburg, Hempstead County for about 34 years. He was considered
to be upright, conscientious, and "well worthy the confidence
and trust reposed in him." His birthplace as given as Bartow
Co., GA, which was previously Cass County. Virgil was raised on
his father's farm in Hempstead County, remaining there until he
was 21 years old. He taught for several years, began studying medicine
in 1883 at the Louisville Medical College, and in 1884, graduated
from the Kentucky School of Medicine. Immediately after his graduation,
he opened his practice in Nevada County, AR, but remained there
only 2 years before returning to Wallaceburg and building up a lucrative
practice. In 1889, he began merchandising in connection with his
practice. Virgil and Sallie had eight children, two of whom had
already died when the textbook was written. They had one son, Robert
H. Wood, and five daughters - Beulah L., Minnie O., Edna E., and
twins Okla and Homa. 1.2.2.1 Beulah L. WOOD was born in Hempstead
Co., AR circa 1877. 1.2.2.2 Minnie O. WOOD was born in Hempstead
Co., AR in January 1880. 1.2.2.3 Edna E. WOOD 1.2.2.4 Robert H.

Texas in the late 1860's or early 1870's to help William's brother,
name unknown, plant crops. I do not know which county. Family legend
says some where on the Red river. I am seeking information on siblings
of William and identity of his parents. Appreciate any help or leads.

- I am Desperately
trying to locate information on John (middle initial I. or D.) CARTER
and his wife Elizabeth (BLANCETT ?) CARTER, their daughter Grace
Margaret CARTER, her first husband (?) Mr. DOWNEY, and her second
husband Roscoe Lloyd MILLS. John (I. or D.) CARTER was born in Texas
in 1853, and records indicate he was in Crowell, Foard County, Texas.
His parents were born in Tennessee. Elizabeth (BLANCETT ?) CARTER
was born in Alabama in 1855. Her parents were also born in Alabama.
Their daughter, Grace Margaret CARTER was born in Texas, presumably
around Foard County, in 1899. She had an aunt and uncle with the
surname MONCUS, and the uncle was the brother-in-law of the sheriff
of Tumococorie (sp?) County. Grace Margaret CARTERs first husband
(?) was a Mr. Downey. They had a child, Evelyn Christine DOWNEY
in 1917, in Texas, presumably around Foard County. Grace Margaret
CARTER's second husband (we know they were married, at least!) was
Roscoe Lloyd MILLS. He was born in Mass., and was disowned by his
family for marrying a "divorcee with a child". Again, the names
I'm trying to locate around Foard County, Texas are: CARTER, BLANCETT
(?), DOWNEY, MONCUS, and MILLS. Any information at all would be
Very Appreciated! The family line has grown alot since then!
