- Thanks to
the great Victoria County site, I've learned a little more about
my ggggrandfather, William Parsons MILLER and his wife, Elizabeth
GRACE. They appear in the 1850 census. He served as mayor of Victoria
at some point. Their daughter, Mary Ann MILLER married George William
GARNETT--their son, Harrold GARNETT, married Betty C SIMPSON. This
is my direct line. If anyone has any information on WP MILLER and
his family, ancestors, etc., I would dearly love to hear from you.
I have descendant information to share...always glad to find another
cousin!

- AUSTIN, Samuel
C. (b. April 3, 1865) told his children he was born in Texas, that
his mother died at his birth, and that he was raised by his aunts.
He moved to NC in 1883. He never registered his marriages or registered
for a census. He died in Alexander County, NC May 2, 1936. Because
the Stephen Austin family also came from Alexander County, there
may be a connection to those he came back to take to Texas. I would
appreciate any help in learning where to look for information. We
plan a trip to Texas in June.

- I'm looking
for any information on James Girard NISBETT. "Nez" was my uncle
(by marriage) and he was born 27 May 1890 in Alabama. We believe
he lived in Childress as a youngster; and we believe his mother's
maiden name was CREWS. Uncle "Nez" married my aunt, Gladys Gertrude
RILEY in 1916 in Quanah (Hardeman Co). In abt 1932, he and Gladys
opened the First State Bank of Dodson. I have a copy of my aunt's
diary written between 1932 and 1936 which tells about Nez's many
trips to Childress so I must assume there was still a connection
there (it's possible it was only business connections). Uncle Nez
has always been somewhat of a mystery. He died in 1954, when I was
only 11. To an 11 year old, 64 was dreadfully old! The only thing
I really remember about him was that he loved brand new cars, and,
with the exception of the 1930's, he always drove a new Cadillac
and loved to drive fast! Because he was instrumental in starting
the First State Bank of Dodson, and later the First State Bank of
Dumas, I assume he would be listed in a "Who's Who&", but I've no
idea how to obtain the listing if there is one. Any help I might
receive about him will be gratefully appreciated. My aunt was such
a wonderful woman, I'd like to be able to complete the history I
have on her by adding more information about her husband; and, as
I said, he is somewhat of a mystery (and I'd love to solve it!).
Thank you so much in advance, and happy searching to all. Marjie

- My paternal
grandmother was Amanda Emily BOYKIN / BARCROFT RILEY, born Apr.
1864 in Hamilton Co TX. When Amanda was abt 4, her mother died and
she was sent to live with L. O. and Sarah BARCROFT. They formally
adopted her in 1872 when she was 8 years old. Her biological parents
were: S. R. BOYKIN and Emily MEDFORD (at least I believe her mother's
maiden name was MEDFORD). She had several siblings, I've been told;
however, I've been able to locate only one of them. Sidney J. BOYKIN
was born in 1862. Recently I went through the 1880 Federal Census
for Bosque County Texas and found S. R. BOYKIN living there with
his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Isabella MEDFORD, and Sidney (age 20). I
also found Amanda living with L. O. and Sarah BARCROFT. I am interested
in ANY information anyone might have on the BOYKIN'S or BARCROFT'S.
I've been looking for the BOYKIN's for over 15 years and have only
recently been successful at finding them. Any help you can give
me will be gratefully appreciated. Warm regards to all searchers!
